The Freedom To Drive

Electric Vehicles and The Glasgow LEZ

From 1st June 2023, Glasgow will be introducing a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in a bid to reduce pollution and harmful emissions in the city centre.

Vehicles that don’t meet the emissions regulations will be restricted from the centre of the city. This generally includes diesel engine vehicles registered before 2015 and petrol vehicles registered before 2006, though there are exceptions.

The LEZ covers the area of Glasgow city centre, up to the M8 motorway at the North and West, Saltmarket/High Street to the East and River Clyde to the South. If you’re found driving through this zone in a non-compliant vehicle, a penalty will be issued to the registered keeper. The first offence is a £60 fine, with the penalty doubling for every subsequent breach in the same LEZ.

Electric vehicles comply with the requirements and therefore are exempt from any penalty. If you drive through or work in Glasgow city centre, it may be worth considering switching to an electric vehicle. There are grants available to help sole traders and micro business owners fund a switch to electric.

Your Questions About Electric Vehicle Charger Installation Answered!

The cost of installing an EV charger in Glasgow depends on several factors: the model of EV charger you decide you want fitted, the route from the distribution board and any additional work to be carried out prior to the installation. We offer a free survey prior to installation which involves one of our qualified installers attending your property to assess the location of the charger placement, discuss the suitable chargers available and provide you with an accurate quote. We also accept payment through PayPal Pay in 3 interest-free loan that allows you to split your payment into three instalments if you do not wish to pay the full amount in a single transaction.

The time it takes to charge an electric vehicle will depend on the remaining charge left in the battery, the power output of the charger and the size of your vehicle’s battery. Other elements, such as the temperature, can also play a part. Use our EV charging time calculator to get an estimate of how long it would take to charge your electric vehicle depending on some of these factors.
Whilst many of the EV chargers we supply can be paired up with solar panels to be powered wholly by solar energy or in combination with electricity from the National Grid, there are some models that are not compatible. For a quick overview of the ones that are compatible, visit our Solar EV Chargers page.
